These new materials, cherry wood paneling and built-in furniture, were detailed to appear to not quite touch the structure of the existing construction. The cherry starts at the dining banquette, leads to the trellis over the kitchen and becomes the wall paneling, bookcase and seating platform of the living room. Even the slate fireplace was thought of as a free-standing screen whose side panels are free of the walls creating drape pockets for the large fixed glass panels.
